The Mail Lady

Mail, as you know, is dirty! I hate it. Every time I get the mail I open the envelopes and dump things onto the clean counter (without touching them) throw the dirty envelopes away, wash my hands then go through the mail. Washing my hands again and cleaning the counter when I'm done. You never know what germs were on the mail that the people touched inside (but I do feel less anxiety about the inside mail than the envelopes.

We had some packages to be picked up today (my husband is on the ebay kick again). Our mail lady is super nice and likes to talk and catch up with the kids etc etc. I have no problem with this. If she picks something up she always brings our mail to the door. I like chatting with her - it's always nice. She had a cold today and that's no big deal and we got to talking and I told her how my oldest had a flu-like illness last week and she said her daughter (who works in a germcare - I mean daycare had one recently too). The first thing I thought was - is that where my daughter got it? Did you pass it in the mail. Although unlikely it was my first thought because I guess it could be possible... right? I find different facts on how long those types of germs live on surfaces.

After our short conversation I think I washed my hands 3 or 4 times then used sanitizer. I wanted to make sure the cold is not on me. Both of my girls are just getting over one. I need to change my sweatshirt too - just in case!

We also had some packages delivered from UPS today. I did as I always do and opened the packages, dumped out the contents washed my hands put the contents away then washed my hands again and cleaned off the counters and the scissors I used to open the box. I know that sounds exhausting but it's really pretty automatic for me.

Like my husband says, I'm always worrying about the next thing - right now it's taking the girls back to dance class. Ugh - I just hope for a super snowy winter so I have excuses for not taking them every week. I'm so afraid they will get the really bad stomach bug that's going around..... I will post on the first class for sure! I also hate how a high school student is an assistant in the class. She brings germs from school!!
